Long Term Policies

Long term policies must take priority over myopic ones:

  • Referendums/Polls should be taken to answer these:
    • What kind of country do we want in 100 years?
      • How big do we want our country to be?
    • How do we get there?
  • We believe that most governments have been fighting symptoms (pollution, climate change) and not the disease (population, over-consumption).
  • Some policies take several years to see the effect, especially policies pertaining to the economy and environment. Since politicians are in office for only 4 years, they don't focus on these policies because they will have less effect than those policies that can help them get re-elected. This problem is even worse if the politician is serving the last term without possibility or desire to get re-elected. Consequently, we end up with many myopic policies.
